Source & key colors

You choose exactly one color. The system derives six key colors from it — each the seed of a full tonal palette. That's why a whole scheme can be yours in one decision. Material calls this dynamic color; the seed maps to md.sys.color.* roles through the palettes below.

Primary

Secondary

At most primary’s chroma — quiet by construction.

Tertiary

A third accent; most variants move its hue away from primary’s.

Neutral

Almost no chroma — but still a whisper of your hue.

Neutral variant

A touch more chroma — for supporting text & outlines.

Error

A fixed red. Semantics must not follow the brand.

Status colors start from fixed hues (green, amber, blue) — then shift partway toward your source hue so they feel like family. This is Material's own custom-color harmonization, applied to the roles Material never shipped.
